Positions with your partner

The following pictures show you some positions you can try with your partner. I would recommend them to try before you actually go in labour. It is a bit the same as the breathing exercises. Try them when you feel comfortable and make them your own.

Where you read “he, him or his” you can read “she or her”

You can rest, leaning over your partners back. Take care to have your weight distributed over his upper and lower back. Do not lean heavily over the centre of the back.

You can use your partner to support you. As in the full squat you can be facing your partner or with your back to him: whatever feels most comfortable for you. It depends on your relative heights and widths. It is important that your partner has some support. He may rest with his back against a wall, or sit on the edge of a table.

Squatting can be a useful position in labour, you can do this alone, as well as with your partner. He can sit in a chair, you can choose either facing him or have your back to him.
